Are you going after this person to meter the punishment that he objectively deserves, or that you personally wish to inflict on him as someone he wronged? Are you willing to change your mind if you find out there were mitigating circumstances?

From what you're telling me, it seems like this person would have no reason to want to kill you. I'm sure you realize there are many ways to manipulate someone into doing something they don't want, especially here. Coercion, possession, mind control. It's entirely possible that he's another victim here.

It's also possible that he isn't, but it's still something that deserves investigating to make sure you're not going after the wrong person.
